The introduction of the Code 11.59 line in 2019 was a ballsy move by Audemars Piguet. It represented the introduction of a line of completely new watches; no heritage, no homages, and no redesigns. The Code 11.59 line is a contemporary and brazen take on luxury watch-making. The only things that remind us of AP’s storied history: ultra high-end finishing and crazy complications. The 26393NR is a decidedly modern reimagining of the classic dressy chronograph. This isn’t any regular old chronograph though, but a flyback chronograph that allows the wearer to reset the running chronograph hand without having to pause it first. The 41 mm case features a three layer construction, consisting of a thin round 18k pink-gold bezel, a matching round case back, and an octagonal case middle executed in black ceramic. Recognise that shape in the middle? Yes, that’s a playful nod to the iconic Royal Oak! What we love most about the Code 11:59 case design are the open worked lugs, which give the watch an almost futuristic and architectural feel, especially when juxtaposed against the black ceramic material. The dial features a beautiful gradient effect, which shifts from an anthracite grey in the middle to deep black on the outer edges where the tachymetric scale is located, set against a vertical satin brushed background. The dial sports three sub-registers that display the 30-minute and 12-hour totalisers for the chronograph function as well as the running seconds. Meanwhile, a cutout at the 4:30 position reveals a discrete date functionality. The 26393NR is powered by Audemars Piguet’s caliber 4401 self-winding movement. The incredible movement has a 70-hour power reserve and features a beautiful skeleton 22k pink rotor that is visible through the sapphire case back. This 26393NR was introduced and sold earlier this year and comes on a black rubber-coated strap with an 18k rose-gold ardillon buckle. The watch comes as a full set with the original box and papers.

Introduction

Audemars PiguetAudemars Piguet is among the holy trinity Swiss maisons d’horlogerie alongside Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. Audemars Piguet has a storied history of producing high-complication watches. It all started in 1875, when Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet founded the company in the heart of the Vallée de Joux, Le Brassus, Switzerland. This pure, rough and wild landscape, with deep, dark forests, ice-cold waters and the omnipresence of rocks and hills, provided inspiration and raw materials for the Swiss watch manufacture to develop the finest watches. Since its inception, Audemars Piguet has specialized in rare, valuable and highly-complicated watches like perpetual calendars, chronographs and chiming watches. Nowadays, the emphasis of Audemars Piguet lies on the iconic Royal Oak line.
