The exquisite Audemars Piguet Metropolis is the perfect wrist companion for that never-ending trip around the world you’ve always dreamt about.

The Metropolis was fittingly introduced in 2001 at the SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie) as part of the Jules Audemars collection, Audemars Piguet’s haute horlogerie collection that was named after one of the company’s co-founders.

As with all the members of the Jules Audemars collection, the Metropolis combines a classic design aesthetic—harkening back to the company’s earlier days of producing exquisite dress watches—with magnificent complications. The Metropolis combines perhaps the most iconic of high complications—the perpetual calendar—with one of the most romantic ones: the worldtime functionality.

The perpetual calendar, of course, handily solves one of the more pesky issues associated with analog watches: having to adjust the date every other month. By cleverly accounting for the differential lengths of the months as well as the existence of leap years, this mechanical complication ensures that the watch won't have to be adjusted for a very long time as long as you keep it running. The handy world time complication, on the other hand, allows the time across all of the world’s time zones to be displayed simultaneously.

This platinum execution of the Metropolis dates back to 2004 and comes in a 39 mm case. The white dial features a lovely engraved globe effect, alternating dot indices and styled applied Arabic numerals, and classic feuille (leaf) hands. The three sub-registers at the 9, 12, and 3 o’clock positions display the calendar functions, while the register at the 6 o’clock position features the world-time display that can be adjusted with the pusher that is attached to the side of the case at the 4 o’clock position.

This ref. 25919PT is in excellent condition and comes on a brown leather strap with a platinum Audemars Piguet deployant clasp. The watch runs on a beautiful hand-finished automatic movement with a 21k white gold skeletonized rotor that is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. This Metropolis comes with the extract from the archives. It is offered with a strap of your liking, for example we paired it with a brown one or a black alligator strap.

Introduction

Audemars Piguet is among the holy trinity Swiss maisons d’horlogerie alongside Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. Audemars Piguet has a storied history of producing high-complication watches. It all started in 1875, when Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet founded the company in the heart of the Vallée de Joux, Le Brassus, Switzerland. This pure, rough and wild landscape, with deep, dark forests, ice-cold waters and the omnipresence of rocks and hills, provided inspiration and raw materials for the Swiss watch manufacture to develop the finest watches. Since its inception, Audemars Piguet has specialized in rare, valuable and highly-complicated watches like perpetual calendars, chronographs and chiming watches. Nowadays, the emphasis of Audemars Piguet lies on the iconic Royal Oak line.
