As we celebrate the 50th birthday of the iconic Royal Oak in 2022, it is only fitting to draw attention to the ref. 15202: the exquisite 2000s homage to the very first Royal Oak.

The ref. 15202ST was introduced in 2000 as a modern update of the original ref. 5402 Royal Oak from 1972.

The 15202 blends all the important design- and technological elements from the 5402. First of all, the 15202 has the traditional 'Jumbo' case with a diameter of 39 mm and a height of just 8.1 mm. This is why this robust and sturdy watch still wears elegantly on the wrist.
The anthracite dial sports the iconic ‘Grande Tapisserie' finish we have come to know and love, together with 18K white gold long hour markers with Luminova filling and a matching 18K white gold hand set.
The watch is powered by the ultra-thin 2121 automatic movement, which is based on Jaeger-LeCoultre's legendary JLC 920 caliber. Unlike the 5402 upon which it is based, the 15202 sports an open case back giving you an unobstructed view of the beautiful skeletonized 21K gold rotor.
The steel case and integrated bracelet are in sharp condition with the original chamfers as crisp as the day it left the Audemars Piguet facility. Finally, this 15202 comes as a full set with papers that date it back to 2001.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak in 2022, Audemars Piguet announced the retirement of the 15202 and the introduction of the new 16202. As a result, this reference is sure to become a collector’s favorite sooner than later!

Introduction

Audemars Piguet is among the holy trinity Swiss maisons d’horlogerie alongside Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. Audemars Piguet has a storied history of producing high-complication watches. It all started in 1875, when Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet founded the company in the heart of the Vallée de Joux, Le Brassus, Switzerland. This pure, rough and wild landscape, with deep, dark forests, ice-cold waters and the omnipresence of rocks and hills, provided inspiration and raw materials for the Swiss watch manufacture to develop the finest watches. Since its inception, Audemars Piguet has specialized in rare, valuable and highly-complicated watches like perpetual calendars, chronographs and chiming watches. Nowadays, the emphasis of Audemars Piguet lies on the iconic Royal Oak line.
