Combine one of the rarest Rolex stone dials with one of the most outrageous Day-Date configurations and you’ll end up with this mesmerizing beauty. One might take this beauty for an enamel dial at first glance, but it really is a gemstone variety. In fact, this Cacholong dial is one of the least common ones among Rolex’ stone dial Day-Dates. Believed to be named after the Qash (Qashqadaryo) River in Uzbekistan, Cacholong is a form of Opal with a beautiful milky white hue and a slight mother of pearl-like luster. We think you should know that this clean dial with appurtenant diamond setting is something we see on contemporary Day-Dates but is here housed in a preceding reference. If the stunning dial weren't enough by itself, it is housed in a special Day-Date case that carries its own special reference number, 18388. The first ‘3’ in the reference number indicates that the case lugs are factory-set with diamonds, while the first ‘8’ refers to the factory-set diamond bezel. Of course, no Day-Date is truly complete without the iconic three-link President bracelet with the concealed Rolex clasp. As the 18338 is a sub-reference of the 182xx-series Day-Dates, it houses the caliber 3155 automatic movement with a double-quickset function. This allows you to independently adjust the day, date, and timeThis beautiful ref. 18388 Day-Date with rare Cacholong dial dates back to 1992 and is in excellent condition.
Introduction
Rolex Day-DateThe very essence of luxurious time-keeping, provided with a day and date function. It was launched in 1956 as a niche model and was only produced in precious metals (yellow-, white- and rose gold or platinum). Its retail price was way costlier than any other Rolex model. However, due to its popularity among a lot of prestigious people, for example presidents (hence, its nickname), it became Rolex’ flagship model. Over the years this model has enjoyed associations with a wide variety of people, from world leaders, athletes, celebrities and mafiosi (like Tony Soprano). Regardless of the differences, they all had one thing in common: being successful in their area of expertise. Therefore, to this day the Day-Date is still synonymous with luxury, prestige, style and success. With exception of the most modern models, the Day-Date comes in at 36mm.
