Odd duckling or beautiful swan?We specialize in the classic models that have shaped the Rolex brand over the time span of many decades. We’re talking about classic models such as the Datejust, Submariner, and Daytona that were introduced in the mid-20th century. In that sense, the Yacht-Master is a bit of an odd duckling. Introduced in the 1990s it’s a crossover model between the toolwatches of old and the shiny luxury sports watches that Rolex produces nowadays. It’s a thin line between cool and gaudy, but Rolex hit gold with the Yacht-Master.We love the Yacht-Master 16622 because it’s basically a more playful Submariner. It comes in the same slim 40mm stainless steel case and Oyster bracelet as a classic Submariner, but the polished lugs and center links give it a luxurious twist. Pair that with the engraved platinum rotating bezel, matching platinum dial, and funky red seconds hand and you have the perfect sports watch for the summer (or any other time you damn well please). The watch is in excellent condition, with a sharp case and tight bracelet. You’ll also get the original box and papers that accompanied the watch when it originally left the Amsterdam dealership in 2005.
Introduction
Rolex Yacht-MasterRolex seems to have toyed with the idea of a nautical watch in the 1960s. A handful of prototype ‘Paul Newman’ style Cosmograph dials with printed “Yacht-Master” text have surfaced over the years, but a nautical Rolex chronograph never actually came to fruition. In 1992, Rolex introduced its first dedicated nautical watch under the Yacht-Master name. Unlike preceding sports watches (like the Submariner and Daytona), the Yacht-Master forewent the toolwatch aesthetics. To achieve a sporty luxurious look, the first Yacht-Master (ref. 16628) sported a gold Oyster case, with big markers and hands, more polished surfaces on the case and bracelet, and an engraved solid gold bezel. In 1994, Rolex introduced a midsize and a ladies version. Finally, Rolex added a stainless steel version with solid platinum bezel to the Yacht-Master line-up in 1997.
