A sportive and elegant, non-purpose (unlike, for example, their Navitimer), watch suited for the needs of “young and active professionals”. That was Breitling’s approach to attract a younger clientele in the mid 60’s. The result was this, the Breitling Top Time. This Top Time dates back to the year 1973, just before Breitling discontinued the model. The watch carries reference 815 and runs on the widely used, manually wound, Valjoux chronograph caliber 7736. This was a simple but durable movement which made the watch quite affordable for the younger clientele back then. This Top Time is nicknamed ‘Long playing’ thanks to its longer mainspring with a 52-hour power reserve as a result. The watch features a stainless steel case with a size of 38 millimeter and pump pushers to stop, start and reset the chronograph. Underneath the Plexiglas we’ll find the beautiful ‘T Swiss Made T’ silvered ‘Panda’ dial including three sub dials and ‘Breitling Geneve’ below the 12-hour position. An absolute must-have fitted on a black vintage tropic strap with the original Breitling buckle. The watch is in overall good condition and also comes with its original box and papers.
Introduction
Breitling Breitling was founded in the year 1884 by technical engineer Léon Breitling. He started a factory to produce measurement attributes like chronographs for Swiss watchmakers. In the early 20th century when Leon Breitling died, his son Gaston took over the factory and started producing watch cases that could house even the watches movement as a chronograph unit. This was the beginning of Breitling as we know it nowadays.
