This watch has everything we desire from Piaget. It’s gold, has an ultra-thin in-house movement, and comes with a desirable hardstone dial. But this lovely piece carries a wonderful secret: it was retailed by none other than Cartier! Piaget’s story began in the 1870s as a movement manufacturer, but since the mid-twentieth century it’s best known for its luxurious watches with ultra-thin movements and colorful hard-stone dials. This ref. 9603 is no different. The watch features a square 18k yellow gold case together with an engine-turned bezel with debossed 5-minute marks. Measuring in at 23 x 23 mm, the watch is perfect for a modern lady as well as any classic-minded gentleman. The centerpiece of the watch is, of course, the sumptuous hardstone dial. Honey Onyx is a variation of the classic onyx, with characteristic creamy brown streaks and translucent portions. The watch features a yellow-gold crown that is topped with a red ruby cabochon. This is an unusual detail for a Piaget watch, but makes sense as the watch was retailed by Cartier! In fact, a closer look at the 12 o’clock position on the dial reveals a discreet printed Cartier signature that is barely visible at a casual glance. The warm details of the watch are complemented by the inclusion of matching yellow-gold dauphine hands and a light-brown alligator leather Cartier strap.
