Not every Tank has to be a yellow-gold Tank Louis. This platinum Tank Chinoise ref. 2685G is a rather different take on Cartier's iconic rectangular design, with its horizontal bars.

This example dates from 2004 and belongs to the Collection Privée Cartier Paris, better known as CPCP. Running from 1998 to 2008, the collection paid homage to important historical Cartier designs, combining classic case shapes with mechanical movements and precious metals. Today, CPCP models are sought after by collectors who appreciate Cartier's more historically significant creations.

Talking about historic significance, the origin of the Tank Chinoise dates back to 1922, the golden age of Art-Deco design. The horizontal bars on the case, are inspired on the architectural design of Chinese temples. A fascinating design move while still maintaining that unmistakable Cartier look and feel.

The 950 platinum case is paired with a guilloché dial featuring the recognisable Roman-numeral layout. At 12 o'clock, the dial features the two-line signature 'Cartier Paris', a characteristic detail found on most of the CPCP models. The blued-steel Breguet-style hands add a charming touch to the dial, both the dial and hands are well preserved. The case, is worn with great pride and remains in outstanding condition. Hallmarks on the case back have good readability, and the same can be said about the other engravings around the open case back.

Through the sapphire crystal case back, the hand-wound calibre 437 MC can be admired. Based on the ultra-thin Piaget calibre 430P, this version features Cartier's signature double-C motif across the bridges, a nice touch of Cartier's own identity.

The watch comes on its original black Cartier leather strap with an 18k white-gold deployant clasp. White gold is more robust than platinum when repeatedly flexed, making it a suitable material for this type of folding mechanism while still maintaining the cool and understated appeal of the platinum case. Although the clasp is made of a different material than the case, it is entirely correct for this reference.

This gorgeous example is accompanied by its original CPCP presentation box, accessory box and warranty booklet, completing a particularly appealing package.
