This rare IWC Aquatimer 812AD was kept in immaculate shape by the previous owner, an IWC collector. Believe us, it was not easy to convince the gentleman to part with a piece like this. Given its rarity you are unlikely to ever find one again, especially in this condition.Let's dive a little deeper into this piece. The black dial with matte finish is spotless and the with contrasting white printing and matching white inner rotating bezel. The first 15 minutes of the inner bezel have the correct tritium application on the 5-minute marks. The watch has its original twin crowns and the case back engraving is still visible. The Tropic rubber strap is the perfect accompaniment. This is a perfect example of a historically important piece, down to the very last detail.
Introduction
IWC AquatimerFirst unveiled in 1967, the Aquatimer was the first true dive watch from IWC. The Aquatimer represented a massive investment in research and development from IWC, with new equipment and tools created specifically for developing and testing the Aquatimer. A plastic crystal, screw-on case back, and new spring-sealed crown ensured that the Aquatimer could handle the pressure of an actual dive, and the inner rotating bezel ensured that it would not be accidentally adjusted during a dive. The iconic dial design is still recognizable in today’s Aquatimers, from the bold hour markers to the shape of the hands.
