There’s been a venerable onslaught of Patek heavy hitters over the course of this past year: Nautiluses, Aquanauts, Annual Calendars, and Perpetual Calendars. Yet, sometimes the heart yearns for the classics and what is more classic than a Calatrava? In 1932, Patek introduced the ref. 96 Calatrava dress watch. Named after the Calatrava cross, the symbol of the medieval Spanish Military Order of Calatrava and Patek Philippe's corporate logo, this watch became the blueprint for most dress watches since.Putting practicality and functionality front and center, a Calatrava is always a time-only watch with an understated round case. The ref. 3893 is no exception. Executed in 18k yellow gold, the 33mm measuring case sports elegant thin lugs and a thin polished bezel. The classic white dial features a recessed center disc embossed with Patek’s iconic hobnail (clous de Paris in French) pattern and an understated decentral second. The raised outer ring of the dial features a closed black printed minute track and simple black painted indices. Together with the thin black stick hands, the watch takes on a charming Bauhaus aesthetic. The ref. 3893 runs on Patek Philippe's ultra-thin manual winding caliber 215 movement, giving the watch an elegantly slim profile. We’ve paired this beauty with a beautiful black lizard strap and an 18k yellow-gold Patek Philippe ardillon buckle. Moreover, the watch comes with the original box and papers.
