The reference 6305 marks one of the earliest chapters of the Datejust story. Produced during the 1950s, it belongs to a generation in which Rolex was still refining the collection that would become its flagship.

Many of the details collectors now associate with early Datejusts are present here: the acrylic crystal, the distinctive faceted and pointed hour markers, the original Brevet crown and, above all, the unmistakable red ‘Datejust’ signature. The red printing was used only during the early years of the Datejust and has become one of the defining characteristics of the reference. Against the warm "eggshell" dial it introduces just enough contrast to catch the eye.

This example has been preserved exceptionally well. The case remains very thick, with crisp transitions between the brushed and polished surfaces, while the fluted bezel retains the sharp profile that gives these early Datejusts so much presence.

The watch is offered on the 18k pink gold Jubilee bracelet shown, which is included in the asking price. It should be noted, however, that we acquired the watch on a leather strap rather than on its bracelet.
