A 6309 where the red model inscription and coordinating date disc stand in striking contrast to a concentric dial that has gracefully mellowed into a warm honey patina.

The Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph reference 6309 occupies a special place in the history of Rolex, a model that bridges the elegance of the Datejust with the functionality that would eventually inspire the celebrated tool watches of the brand’s future. Introduced in the early 1950s, the Turn-O-Graph was among the first Rolex watches to feature a rotating bezel, offering its wearer the ability to measure elapsed time with precision, and earning it a reputation as a watch that combined refinement with practicality. Yet beyond its technical merits, it is the rare and individual character of surviving examples that now captivates collectors.

This particular 6309 is an extraordinary specimen, not because it has resisted the passage of time, but because it has embraced it so beautifully. The once-uniform dial has evolved into something far richer, almost painterly patina that radiates history. This is not simply a dial with concentric finishing; it is a canvas upon which seventy years of history have left their mark, a surface that makes this watch truly one of one. The radium used for the plots and inside the leaf hands might have something to do with it.

The model name in red, matching the even numbers on the disc in the framed date aperture. It provides a striking punctuation against the softness of the dial. Surrounding it all is the distinctive bezel, its engraved numerals and functional rotation reminding us that this was a pioneering design, a watch meant for both the boardroom and the field, long before the professional lines of Rolex took form. Interestingly enough, the 6309 has a white gold bezel, as opposed to later variants of the ToG line that are fitted with a steel one. The 36mm measuring case features no lug-holes and it still sports its original Brevet crown. The serial dates it back to the mid 50s.

This early folded Jubilee bracelet dates back a decade later, but completes the piece with the understated confidence that only a steel vintage Rolex can exude. Additionally it also looks stunning on leather.
