There are many amazing things on this fellow. First of all, this reference 6605 dating back to 1957 is carried out in 18k rose gold. This already is special as vintage, rose-gold Rolex watches are quite rare. Especially, a 6605 in rose gold is something we don't see that often. Second, instead of a leather strap or Jubilee bracelet it comes on an 18k rose-gold Rolex President bracelet. However, as French fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy once said: "Luxury is in each detail."  The same is true for this amazing Rolex Datejust. The details we love are the roulette date disc, arrowhead markers, leaf hands and lightly patinated dial! The last Ovettone we featured was gone way too soon. We are not expecting to have any trouble finding a new owner for this one.

Introduction

Rolex DatejustAfter World-war 2 Rolex created the first self-winding waterproof chronometer wristwatch that featured a date indication. For the first 10 years of production the date, shown at the 3 o’clock position, was not yet enhanced by the well-known ‘Cyclop lens’. This lens was introduced in 1955 and magnified the date by 2.5 times. The Cyclop lens isn’t the only invention, that we can still see up to today, the Datejust set in motion. The Jubilee bracelet was designed especially for the Datejust. The iconic elegance of this 5 piece bracelet is a great match to –arguably- one of the best buys in the vintage watch market.OvettoneThe nickname 'Ovettone' is Italian for big egg and covers a couple of early Datejust reference numbers that have a certain kind of case back. This protruded 'bubble back' was designed to house the newly introduced date wheel to the movement. The production started in 1945 and these early Datejusts are loved among distinguished Rolex collectors that want a truly special piece within one of the most common Rolex lines.
