Let’s say you’ve decided on adding a Rolex Day-Date to your collection, but you just can’t choose between yellow, rose, or white gold. What’s a guy or gal to do? Well, how about all three? No; not three separate Day-Dates. All three gold tones in one extraordinary package.
There’s no clear explanation for why the Rolex “Tridor” came to be; at least none that we’ve been able to uncover. It almost feels as though Rolex simply asked itself: if we can do it, why not? For a brand renowned for its conservative design language, the Tridor remains one of the most unusual and unexpected variations of the Day-Date ever produced. Yet, somehow, it works. This fascinating hybrid was available from the late 1970s through the late 1990s. It came at a hefty premium compared to ordinary single-tone models.
This Rolex Day-Date “Tridor” features a 36 mm 18K white-gold case and crown, paired with an 18K yellow-gold fluted bezel. The iconic President bracelet is where the magic truly happens, with two 18K white-gold outer links framing a center link composed of alternating bands of rose, yellow, and white gold.
The silver Jubilee dial, finished with Rolex’s signature repeating engraved pattern, features two white-gold cartouches displaying the brand and model name. Stylish diamond hour markers complete the distinctive aesthetic.
Dating back to 1986, this example is powered by the updated caliber 3055 automatic movement, featuring the convenient single quickset date function. The watch remains in exceptional condition, boasting a razor-sharp case and bezel, along with a remarkably tight President bracelet.
