There are only two ironclad guarantees in the vintage watch business. The first: the best day to buy a vintage watch is today. The second: Amsterdam Vintage Watches will continue to offer the most amazing Day-Dates in the world. This ref. 18238 with exquisite mother of pearl dial is yet another addition to our honors list. The mother of pearl dial has a beautiful milky color when viewed directly from the front. Yet, when the light hits in the right angle, it reveals a beautiful pattern that looks like hammered silver. Stone dial Day-Dates are usually devoid of hour markers to give the stone space to shine. Not this one, though. Factory-set ruby hour markers, resting in 18k yellow-gold tubs, provide a pop of color to the pearly background. The 36 mm case is executed in 18k yellow-gold and sports a matching gold fluted bezel. If the watch wasn’t special enough by itself, it’s paired with a rare 18k yellow-gold riveted Oyster bracelet. As you’ve grown to expect from us, the case as well as the bracelet are in excellent condition. This fifth-generation Day-Date dates back to 1996 and features the updated caliber 3155 automatic movement with the convenient double-quickset function to separately adjust the day and date discs.
Introduction
Rolex Day-DateIn 1956, Rolex introduced one the most iconic watches ever made: the Day-Date. The Day-Date was the first waterproof self-winding chronometer certified wristwatch with a day and date function. And to top it off, it was only available in gold or platinum! Rolex also designed a new three-link bracelet, known as the ‘President,’ to pair with this special watch. With exception of the most modern executions, the Day-Date comes exclusively in a 36mm case.
