The Day-Date line has been the canvas for Rolex’ most bold and creative designs. This beauty, for instance, is the only two-tone Day-Date ever made.
The ref. 18349 is best known for its exquisite diamond set bezel and dials. Most 18349s are executed either fully in white gold or, more commonly, as Tridors. These Tridor Day-Dates feature white gold cases, yellow gold bezels, and white gold President bracelets with center links that consist of alternating bands of rose, yellow, and white gold. In other words, a three-tone watch. Yet, there is a rare 18349 variation that was delivered by Rolex with a two-tone 18k gold Jubilee bracelet with diamond setting, making it the only two-tone Day-Date ever produced by Rolex.
This rare reference 18349 features a 36 mm 18k white gold case with an 18k yellow gold and factory-set diamond bezel. The ultra-rare Jubilee bracelet features 18k white gold outer links and three center links executed in 18k yellow gold. Each of these three yellow gold links sports three factory-set brilliant cut diamonds, making for a dazzling display of stones circling the entire length of the watch.
If that weren’t enough, the dial is crafted from a lustrous white mother of pearl. Matching the gemstone theme of the watch, the indices feature brilliant cut diamonds set in splendid 18k yellow gold chatons.
This rare and truly special Day-Date comes as a full set with the original box and papers. The papers reveal an interesting detail: while the watch was produced in 1989 it was only retailed in 2002. We’re certain it won’t take nearly as long for this beauty to find a new owner this time around!
Introduction
The very essence of luxurious time-keeping, provided with a day and date function. It was launched in 1956 as a niche model and was only produced in precious metals (yellow-, white- and rose gold or platinum). Its retail price was way costlier than any other Rolex model. However, due to its popularity among a lot of prestigious people, for example presidents (hence, its nickname), it became Rolex’ flagship model. Over the years this model has enjoyed associations with a wide variety of people, from world leaders, athletes, celebrities and mafiosi (like Tony Soprano). Regardless of the differences, they all had one thing in common: being successful in their area of expertise. Therefore, to this day the Day-Date is still synonymous with luxury, prestige, style and success. With exception of the most modern models, the Day-Date comes in at 36mm.
