Rolex Daytona 16520 “Patrizzi”

The best day to buy a Zenith Daytona is today!

There are chronograph watches, there are Rolexes and then, there is the highly valuable chronograph Rolex named the Daytona. 1988 was the introduction of the second-generation Daytona; the Zenith Daytona starting with reference 16520. The dial of this particular watch is amongst collectors better known as the ‘Patrizzi’ dial. Why? In 2005, Mr. Osvaldo Patrizzi was the first one to notice a discolouration of Zenith Daytona sub dials. He discovered that the counters of certain dials had faded into a brown colour. The reason behind this is that Rolex partly used organic material for these sub dials. The Patrizzi-dial Rolex Daytona has always been popular but only recently, real in-depth studies have been done into these beauties.

This Daytona dates back to 1998 and therefore, still has a tritium index. This watch is in stunning condition as the tachymetric scale on the bezel is still clearly visible. Additionally, the edges and bracelet are razorsharp. The Zenith Daytona is larger (40mm) than its predecessor and has a very robust, sporty look. This chronograph Rolex is powered by the famous El Primero-based Zenith caliber 4030, which was Rolex’s first self-winding chronograph movement. Its predecessor, the 62XX-series, housed a Valjoux caliber and the third generation, which was introduced in 2000, houses a Rolex in-house movement.
