People often forget Audemars Piguet was making watches long before the Royal Oak ever came to life. In fact, the manufacture has a distinguished history of producing exquisite dress watches in precious metals.Round, yellow gold, and a leather strap is usually what comes to mind when we think of dress watches. Not this one though. This beauty from 1978 features an ultra-thin TV-shaped rectangular case in 18k white gold with a positively decadent integrated 18k white-gold braided bracelet. The braided detailing of the bracelet is also incorporated on the bezel surface, giving the watch a luxurious feel. The anthracite dial color has a wonderfully minimalist look. The large grey surface is only broken up by the applied 18k white-gold "AP"-logo at the 12 o’clock position, the white printed “AUDEMARS PIGUET"-signature, and a small white “Swiss” indication at 6 o’clock. The cool look of the dial comes full circle with the understated polished thin sword hands, also executed in 18k white gold. The ultra-thin manual winding caliber has just been fully serviced and the watch comes with its original box and papers.

Introduction

Audemars PiguetAudemars Piguet is among the holy trinity Swiss maisons d’horlogerie alongside Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. Audemars Piguet has a storied history of producing high-complication watches. It all started in 1875, when Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet founded the company in the heart of the Vallée de Joux, Le Brassus, Switzerland. This pure, rough and wild landscape, with deep, dark forests, ice-cold waters and the omnipresence of rocks and hills, provided inspiration and raw materials for the Swiss watch manufacture to develop the finest watches. Since its inception, Audemars Piguet has specialized in rare, valuable and highly-complicated watches like perpetual calendars, chronographs and chiming watches. Nowadays, the main emphasis of Audemars Piguet lies on the iconic Royal Oak line.
