Unusual, rare reference of Audemars Piguet’s iconic Royal Oak: the 25594 is a smaller-sized Royal Oak with a day- and date indication and a moonphase.

This example goes under reference 25594 BA which indicates the watch is made from 18k yellow gold. This unique reference is often seen with a white ‘petite tapisserie’ dial but this specimen has the most unusual one, which is the gold ‘petite tapisserie’ dial. The dial indicates the date on the 3-hour position, the day on the 9-hour position and even the phase of the moon on the 6-hour position. Furthermore, the watch has 18k yellow-gold, no lume stick markers and 18k yellow-gold hands with lume. The watch measures 36 mm and is thicker than the standard Royal Oak (9 mm), which makes it a very well-proportioned watch that feels like a golden mini-tank on the wrist and maintains great wrist presence. The watch, that runs on the caliber 2124, has the unique number 502 which means it belongs to one of the first series.

Introduction

Audemars Piguet Royal OakIn 1970, Audemars Piguet instructed Genta to come up with an unprecedented steel watch. As the story goes, he found inspiration whilst seeing a diver at work with an old-fashioned diver’s helmet near Lake Geneva. Staying up all night, Genta drew the design for a circular case with an angular, octagonal bezel, eight visible screws, and an integrated bracelet. The Royal Oak was presented in 1972 as the most expensive steel watch available and it caused an uproar: why was a distinguished maison d’horlogerie putting out a sports watch, let alone in such a pedestrian material? Some experts even predicted that the Royal Oak would put Audemars Piguet out of business. Though it took a while to catch on, the Royal Oak is now one of the most iconic and long-lasting watch designs, and has spawned an entire product line. It wouldn’t be the first time that Genta would prove a brand’s owners, customers, and industry experts wrong.
