A cool watch for everyone, but a holy grail for every true chronograph aficionado. The Co-Pilot 765 Avi, Breitling’s new approach of the earlier Ref. 765 which was introduced in the year 1953. This first generation piece dates back to the year 1955. The first models only had Breitling on the dial but this changed after Breitling moved to Geneva in the end of ’53. As a result they start stamping the dials with ‘Breitling Genève’. The first Co-Pilots had the ‘digital dial’. This dial featured a numeric counter wheel at the 3 o’clock position that moved every fifteen minutes. This was a pretty complicated feature in that time so the Venus 178 caliber was highly modified to pull this off. After 1955 some French aviation companies asked Breitling to replace the digital window for an analogue, circular sub-dial. This excactly is what you’ll find on this piece. This chronograph is made out of stainless steel, has a case size of 41 millimeters and measures 22 millimeters between the lugs. As we mentioned earlier, the Co-Pilot runs on a modified, column wheel operated Valjoux 178 hand winding caliber. Further on, the watch is in an overall great condition, comes on a black leather strap and includes its original Breitling buckle.

Introduction

Breitling Breitling was founded in the year 1884 by technical engineer Léon Breitling. He started a factory to produce measurement attributes like chronographs for Swiss watchmakers. In the early 20th century when Leon Breitling died, his son Gaston took over the factory and started producing watch cases that could house even the watches movement as a chronograph unit. This was the beginning of Breitling as we know it nowadays.
