If the Cartier Baignoire is modeled after a bathtub, the formidable Baignoire Allongée surely is akin to a luxurious swimming pool. The Cartier Baignoire is based on an unnamed design from 1912 that was gifted by Louis Cartier to Russian Grand Duchess Pavlovna. The model was only released to the general public in 1957 under the ‘Baignoire’ moniker, from the French word for bathtub. Just a few years later, Cartier introduced an elongated version aptly named the Baignoire Allongée. While the original Baignoire is a classic watch with lovely curves and modest dimensions, the Allongée is the dramatic sibling with its long drawn out lines and pointier shape. This Baignoire Allongée is a hand wound 18k rose gold version from the 2000s that measures 47 x 21 mm.  As Cartier tradition dictates, the crown is topped by an exquisite blue sapphire cabochon. The classic silvered dial features beautiful guilloché engraving and Cartier’s classic black painted Roman numerals. A cool detail on this piece is the ‘Made in France’ signature at the six o’clock position on the dial. This ref. 2515 comes on a beautiful coral blue alligator leather Cartier strap with an 18k rose gold Cartier ardillon buckle.
