A stirrup-inspired design; known as the Calandre. Rather scarcely produced and usually realized in a ladies size, equipped with quartz movement. Yet, this early 90's iteration isn’t just considerably larger; it sports the acclaimed manual winding cal. 96.
The Cartier Calandre is often, but mistakenly, referred to as the Cartier Cloche or Cartier Etrier. The Cloche is a different model from Cartier that shows similarities in design but most definitely represents a different watch. The Cartier Etrier is the same watch but Etrier is not its official name. Etrier is French for stirrup and this makes sense as the case design of the Calandre looks like a stirrup. However, according to several, trustworthy sources the official name is Calandre so let's just say we'll stick to that.
Now let's step into the world of refined elegance with this specific Cartier Calandre, a remarkable timepiece that captures the essence of 1970s sophistication. Executed in 18k yellow gold, this exceptional watch features a distinctive shaped case, measuring 27 x 19 mm. A rarity in the Calandre collection, where most models are smaller and powered by Quartz movements. This Calandre, however, stands out not only for its larger size but also for its heart, a manually wound Cal. 96 movement, based on the F. Piguet 21 movement. When we take a look at the dial we can see it has turned to a wonderful creamy hue from its original pearly white color. The Arabic numerals and Paris signature are all placed in a wonderful position to ensure the aesthetics of the dial are all how they should be.
Complementing its golden case, which is still in wonderful condition with all hallmarks intact, is a beige leather strap by Cartier, secured with an 18k yellow gold Cartier buckle, adding a touch of opulence to its timeless design. The watch’s condition remains excellent, preserving the charm and allure that Cartier enthusiasts seek in a vintage piece.
