The legendary Jeanne Toussaint, who joined Cartier in 1913 and was the director of its high jewelry division from 1933 to 1970, inspired the introduction of the panther motive in Cartier’s jewelry designs.

In honor of this phenomenal woman, Cartier introduced the Cartier Panthère watch collection in 1983.The Cartier Panthère wasn’t a completely new design. It took the familiar square case of the Cartier Santos and with a few subtle tweaks—a thinner bezel and delicate bezel screws, smaller crown, tapered lugs, and more rounded curves—a more sensuous and feminine watch was born. The real innovation, however, was the introduction of a new ultra-flexible five-link bracelet. The suppleness of the bracelet mirrors the graceful movements of Cartier’s emblematic animal.

This ref. 883968 Panthère dates back to the ca. 2000 and is executed in an 18k yellow gold case, measuring 29 x 40 mm, and a matching 18k yellow gold Panthère bracelet with a hidden clasp. The classic ivory dial features Cartier’s well-known painted black Roman numerals, closed minute track, and blued swords hands. The blue details of course match the blue sapphire cabochon that traditionally tops the crown. This Panthère also incorporates a useful date function at the three o’clock position. The watch is powered by a convenient quartz movement and is in excellent condition. Furthermore, it comes with its original box and Cartier service papers.
