The house of Cartier introduced the Tank Chinoise in 1922 as Far Eastern themes became wildly popular in European fashion and interior design.
The Tank Chinoise takes the classic rectangular Tank silhouette and adds broad horizontal bars, inspired by the lintels of Chinese temples, above and below the dial. As a result, the watch takes on a more substantial, dressy vibe. The platinum case measures 25 x 21 mm; a proper classy size. The vertical brancards just give it that extra touch of sophistication. The ivory dial is executed in classic Cartier fashion, with painted black Roman numerals on a floral pattern guilloche dial. When we look at the 10 o'clock position, on the dial, we can notice the subtle printing of 'Cartier' through the Roman 'X'. To finish it all off, we have the elegant blued sword hands complimenting the blue sapphire on the crown perfectly.
The watch dates back to ca. 1995, predating the official start of the CPCP series which did not happen until 1998. She is carried by a black alligator strap with beautiful 'Butterfly' folding clasp. Considering the recent hype around white metal Cartier's and adding that only 10 of these are rumoured to exist; we can't be more excited to offer this piece to you all!
