2 Decades ago this -undeniably majestic- Chopard demanded dozen times the price of a steel Submariner. Hardly surprising; since it caries over 400 diamonds: totalling up to more than 13 carats. I was too tired to count the sapphires, but you get the point...

The Chopard boutique in Casablanca certainly welcomed a special client on that faithful day in 2006. Not everyone is ready to splurge the amount of 795000 Dhs on a wristwatch. But granted, you get more than merely a timepiece. In fact, the quartz movement itself is barely impressive and does not account for this exorbitant pricetag. If you grab the official Chopard gem document, which is supplied with this watch, you see the imposing amount of stones used for this opulent execution of the Imperiale.

Besides diamonds, quite some intense-blue sapphires are to be found on the bezel, bracelet, end-links, pushers, dial, markers and crown. These greatly compliment the blue Mother-Of-Pearl counters that stand out against the pave-set dial. The last number of the reference reads "-23" referring to the use of Sapphires. According to a master catalogue from 1996 (which is also supplied) there was also a Ruby (-21) and Emerald (-22) execution. However, this goes for the smaller version that measures 32mm, its successor -we have on offer- comes in at 37mm! Making it suitable for both refined gentleman as well as flamboyant ladies.

We have a great relationship with Chopard and by extension the Scheufele family. We brought it in with them for service and requested additional information but (unfortunately) there are no records if multiple of this specific specimen have been made and/ or if this was a special order. Regardless, special it is most certainly; whether you admire the robust 18K yellow gold bracelet with concealed clasp, or the overal design language used for this sumptuous jewel.
