Class, elegance, quality. Those words are what this Jaeger-LeCoultre stands for. This reference 2721 is a rare, handsome wristwatch with a highly complicated movement. Just take a look at the pictures and try to capture its details and how beautifully finished it is.The watch is made from steel, which is quite unique as most classic wrist watches are made from precious metals. Surely, this watch has been on the wrist of a stylish gentleman that did not mind to stand out from the crowd. This gorgeous dresswatch, dating back to 1943, has an almost 37mm measuring case which was outrageously large for that period. The large, round stainless steel case has beautifully-shaped, teardrop lugs. It still has its original, two-tone dial and this is quite unique as most dials from that period have been refinished. The center dial is silvered and has a subdial at the 6-hour position. The outer ring is silvered but has a different tone and indicates the date of the month in red printing. The red font matches the day and month discs, which are displayed in French through two separate apertures at the 12-hour position. What we, at Amsterdam Vintage Watches, truly love about this piece are the 18k rosegold dauphine hands and 18k rosegold index with the 3, 9 and 12 in Arabic numerals while the rest are dart indices. To top it off, the red font on the dial and calendar is matched by the red date arrow.

Introduction

Jaeger-LeCoultreThe watchmaking empire all started when Antoine LeCoultre created a machine to produce watch parts in the year 1833. After creating some very accurate measuring instruments in the following years LeCoultre teamed up with his son to build a place where they could put together all the expertise and instrument to build watches themselves. The first ‘Manufacture’ in the Vallee du Joux district was born!In 1903 the Parisian watchmaker Edmond Jaeger challenged Antoine LeCoultre’s grandson, who took over the company, to build a few calibers that Jaeger had invented. That worked out very well over the years and led to the founding of Jaeger-LeCoultre in 1937.
