Certain occasions call for a watch that is elegant, clean, and of the highest possible quality. One watch takes the proverbial crown in that category: the Patek Philipe Calatrava. In 1932, Patek introduced the ref. 96 Calatrava dress watch. Named after the Calatrava cross, the symbol of the medieval Spanish Military Order of Calatrava and Patek Philippe's corporate emblem, this watch is the blueprint for every dress watch that came after it.Putting practicality and functionality front and center, a Calatrava is traditionally a time-only watch with an understated round case. This ref. 3520D sports a 33 mm 18k white-gold case with elegant thin lugs and Patek’s characteristic hobnail (Clous de Paris in French) bezel. The white dial is adorned with elongated painted Roman numerals and features a discrete "Beyer” signature at the 6 o’clock position, indicating that the watch was sold at the legendary Zürich-based retailer. Together with the thin white-gold hands, the watch exudes a wonderful understated elegance. This ref. 3520D from 1980 runs on Patek Philippe's ultra-thin manual winding caliber 177 movement, giving the watch an elegantly slim profile. We’ve paired this beauty with a beautiful black alligator-leather Patek Philippe strap and an 18k white-gold Ardillon buckle. Moreover, the watch comes with an extract from the Patek Philippe archives.
