The Patek Golden Ellipse sits on a different plane, somewhere between a circle and a rectangle. Although simple in design, its adherence to the ‘Golden Ratio’ gives the Ellipse a pleasing harmony. The Golden Ellipse was introduced in 1968 and signalled a departure from the traditional shapes in watchmaking. The Ellipse also dispensed with the traditional extended lugs found on other watches, only allowing the end of the strap to briefly interrupt the smooth lines of the case. The ref. 3598 is an uncommon execution of the Ellipse as it has an oval case, whereas most Ellipse models feature a rounded rectangular shape. This ref. 3598 dates back to 1973 and is the midsize execution of the Ellipse. The 18k yellow-gold case measures a classic 30 x 35 mm and with the inclusion of the ultra-thin caliber 16-250 manual winding movement (the smallest mechanical movement made by Patek Philippe) the watch retains an elegant thin profile. The watch features a beautiful deep-blue sunburst dial with applied 18k yellow-gold pointed stick indices and elegant 18k yellow-gold dauphine hands. The watch comes on a luxurious black alligator-leather Patek Philippe strap. We’ve also included an Extract of the Archives that indicates that the watch was produced and sold in 1973.
