The Ellipse, that was launched in 1968, was designed according to the 'divine proportion' or 'golden ratio', which is a mathematical formula that symbolizes beautiful harmony, balance and aesthetic charisma. Not only the Ellipse, but also the best pieces in art, design and architecture like Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Apple's logo, the Great Pyramid of Giza and even, the nature and human body were designed according to this principle. It was a bold choice of Patek Philippe to introduce such a design but it was positively received by the public. It was subtle and elegant but instantly recognizable. The 18k white-gold timepiece we can offer our dear customers dates back to 2009, has reference 3738 and is powered by the calibre 240. Not only the case, hour markers, hands and buckle are made from gold, but also the dial is in grey gold.
