The Patek Philippe 5370P gives the coolest of grand complications—the split-seconds chronograph—a more contemporary look.A chronograph is one of the most pleasing complications you can find in a watch because it is so interactive: it offers the wearer a practical and hands-on functionality. The split-seconds chronograph takes it to another level by allowing you to time two different events, separately from one another. To achieve this, a split-second has two chronographs hands superimposed over one another. Once the chronograph function is engaged, pushing the button on the crown stops one of the hands while the other keeps running. With a second push of the button on the crown, the idle hand instantaneously catches up with the running hand again. The first dedicated split-seconds wristwatch was introduced by Patek in the early 1920s and the complication has been incorporated in a number of historically-important references by Patek since. The 5370P is a modern interpretation of a Patek split-second chronograph that pays homage to the complication’s rich lineage. The 5370P is housed in a 950 platinum case and thus features a small diamond between the lugs at the 6 o’clock position. The case is rather large compared to its predecessors—measuring 41 mm wide and 14 mm high. The watch sports a concave platinum bezel that smooths into a domed sapphire crystal. On the flanks of the case we find satin-brushed recessed areas that gently curve into the lugs that feature a polished cabochon at the ends. On the right hand-side of the case, the crown with integrated split-seconds button is sandwiched between two rectangular chronograph pushers. The comparatively large dimensions of the watch give extra space for the exquisite dial to shine. The deep black hand-made grand feu enamel dial features an 18k gold base plate and elegant 18k white-gold applied Breguet numerals, together with 18k white-gold leaf hands. As the watch is turned upside down, the display case back gives way to the superlatively hand-finished in-house manual winding split-seconds caliber. Just one glance at all the intricate layers of this movement explains why the watch is as thick as it is.The 5370P is without a doubt the best watch Patek Philippe has produced in years and it’s incredibly rare as well. But, of course, you can count on us to find you the very best of the best. This watch was produced in 2019 and is accompanied by the box and papers. The watch comes on a black alligator leather Patek Philippe strap and 950 platinum Patek Philippe folding clasp.
