Might this just be, the perfect Nautilus? Laurent sure thinks so.
Introduced in 2006, the Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 5800/1A-001, was exclusively available in steel. It featured the in-house automatic calibre 330SC. After the discontinuation of the ref. 3800 in the early 2000's, the 5800 came as a reintroduction of the 'mid-size' Nautilus. With a production run of under 2 years it comes as no news that this reference is extremely rare and limited in the world of collectible Patek Philippe's.
The 5800 brings a lot of signature design elements to the table. Looking at the beautiful ridged blue dial with horizontal grooves and of course, the porthole design of the famed GĂ©rald Genta with integrated sapphire case-back, which happens to be the only Nautilus from that time to do so. Comparable to its earlier, mid-size brethren; ref. 3800, the 5800 measures a perfect 38.4mm in case size which is just a 0.9mm larger than its predecessor and as such sits perfectly on every wrist.
This specimen, which dates back to 2008, offers the perfect balance between function and elegance. The case and bracelet are excellently finished, with beveled, polished and granular surfaces. The typical Nautilus bracelet is in wonderful tight condition and has no stretch. The blue dial includes all the traditional features with applied hour-markers and Nautilus hands with superluminova inserts.
A wonderful neo-vintage Nautilus for he or she who wishes to venture in to the world of vintage step by step. The watch comes with an extract from the Patek Philippe archives.
