The 3945 is the Platonic ideal of a Patek Philippe timepiece, combining an exquisite dress watch with an ultra high-end complication. At the height of the quartz crisis that decimated the Swiss watch industry, Patek released a duo of watches with perpetual calendar complications in beautiful dressy 36 mm cases. While the ref. 3940 was delivered on a leather strap, the ref. 3945 came on a luscious integrated rice grain bracelet. This 3945J dates back to 1991 and features an 18k yellow-gold case with a thin stepped bezel. The silvered dial sports 18k yellow-gold pointed baton indices and elegant 18k yellow-gold dauphine hands. A sapphire display case back gives an unobstructed view of the hand finished self-winding caliber with its 22k yellow-gold micro rotor. The perpetual calendar complication is displayed on three recessed sub-dials. The sub-dial at the 9 o’clock position indicates the day of the week as well as a 24-hour hand, while the sub-dial at 3 incorporates the month and a leap year indicator. Finally, on the lower sub-dial we find a charming moon phase indicator, which is surrounded by a date complication. The watch is in wonderful condition and comes with an extract from the Patek Philippe archives.
