We buy and sell vintage Datejusts everyday. It's the corner stone of our store, our bread and butter and definitely one of our most-liked models. It's not very often though, that we see them with such a handsome dial as this one.This 1603 - so, with an engine-turned bezel - dates back to 1975. This watch has a grainy black dial, which is quite unusual as Rolex usually, didn't use this type of glossy lacquer for their dials. It runs on caliber 1570 and comes with a folded Jubilee bracelet.
Introduction
Rolex DatejustIn 1945 Rolex created the flagship Datejust to mark the company’s 40th anniversary. This model was the world’s first self-winding wristwatch with a date indication. With the Datejust, Rolex also introduced the iconic 5-piece Jubilee bracelet, first in solid gold and later in bicolor and stainless steel. On the 10th anniversary of the Datejust in 1955, the magnifying ‘cyclops lens’ was introduced.Reference 1603The Datejust 16xx-series were produced between the '60s and the '70s. If you are looking for a vintage ‘daily beater’ this might be the perfect watch for you. They are affordable, user friendly and possess a timeless elegance that can be combined with basically, any outfit and every occasion. The Datejust usually comes on a Jubilee bracelet (which was especially designed for this watch). The reference 1603 has a stainless steel engine-turned bezel. There is a wide variety of dial colours and configurations. Typical for Datejust models from this era are the pie pan dials: dials that look like upside-down pie pans because of the concentric ring that slopes downwards from the flat centre.
