The Datejust line offers something for everyone, like this crisp 16220.The 162xx series Datejusts are our favorite every-day watches because they offer the classic looks of a 36mm Datejust with all the modern conveniences, such as a sturdy sapphire crystal and a handy quickset-date function.This ref. 16220 from 1988 is no different. The 36 mm stainless steel case, the understated engine-turned bezel, and the elegant Jubilee bracelet give the watch a classic look. The glossy white dial features applied 18 white gold stick markers and a closed painted minute track that contain small painted Roman numerals at the 5-minute positions. The steel case is in great condition with thick lugs. The bracelet is in nice conditionals well, featuring a moderate amount of stretch.

Introduction

Rolex DatejustIn 1945 Rolex created the flagship Datejust to mark the company’s 40th anniversary. This model was the world’s first self-winding wristwatch with a date indication. With the Datejust, Rolex also introduced the iconic 5-piece jubilee bracelet, first in solid gold and later in bicolor and stainless steel. On the tenth anniversary of the Datejust in 1955, the magnifying ‘cyclops lens’ was introduced on the Datejust.Ref. 162xxThe Datejust 162xx references were introduced in the late 1980s. This fourth generation of Datejusts was the first to see the introduction of a sturdy and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. These models also incorporated the new caliber 3135 automatic movement.
