Mother of Pearl is better known as Nacre, which is the iridescent lining you find on the inside of a shell. Swiss dial makers use refined techniques to cut a perfectly round, thin layer of Nacre from the inside of the Pteria Margaritifera, a rare shell that you can find in the Pacific Reef. The Mother of Pearl dial on this 16234 is beautiful as it doesn't have the shine this type of dial normally has. It actually has a pretty matte, simple colour and shade which is quite unique. Furthermore, the watch has an 18k white-gold applied Arabic index, which makes it stand out even more. Finally, the condition on this stainless steel watch is, what we call, insane! The watch has a case diameter of 36 mm and an 18k white-gold fluted bezel. It runs on the calibre 3135 and comes on a stainless steel Jubilee bracelet. The Jubilee bracelet has no stretch at all, the case barely has any scratches and the lugs are still thick. This example dates back to '04.
Introduction
Rolex DatejustIn 1945 Rolex created the flagship Datejust to mark the company’s 40th anniversary. This model was the world’s first self-winding wristwatch with a date indication. With the Datejust, Rolex also introduced the iconic 5-piece Jubilee bracelet, first in solid gold and later in bicolor and stainless steel. On the 10th anniversary of the Datejust in 1955, the magnifying ‘cyclops lens’ was introduced.
