The Day-Date in front of you is yet another great example of the special configurations Rolex produced over the years for the 1803. A blue dial in a white gold case is a combination that simply works. Elegant enough for any occasion, a white gold Day-Date deserves a place in any serious collection, especially a reference 1803/9 with this beautiful blue dial.
What makes this example stand out are the white lacquer-filled hands and hour markers. Instead of the usual tritium inserts, the white lacquer creates a beautiful contrast against the rich blue dial, perfectly complemented by the clean white printing and minute track. The minute track is another detail worth mentioning. It is uncommon to find a white gold Day-Date with a blue dial featuring the white 5-minute track. It's a subtle difference, but one that completely changes the character of the watch. And we are not done yet.... Rolex licensed manufacturers to produce some bracelets in different countries, including the USA, Mexico, Argentina, and Japan, to evade high import tariffs and strict local protectionist tax laws on fully assembled foreign luxury jewelry. On this bracelet, you can find the inscription "Made in Japan" on the inside of the clasp, indicating that it was produced in Japan.
This watch dates back to 1971 and has been preserved in great condition. As white gold Day-Dates become increasingly difficult to find, condition matters more than ever. As you would expect from us, this example retains sharp lugs and a strong President bracelet with its original folding clasp. Inside is the Rolex calibre 1556, the non-quickset movement.
A special Day-Date where, once again, it's all about the details.
