Blue Buckley with rare Hebrew day disc
One of the true joys of the Day-Date lies in the convergence of rarity; for example when a rare dial is paired with an equally rare day disc. Starting with the latter: alternative scripts are seldom encountered. Chinese, Japanese, or Russian appear occasionally, but Hebrew is among the most scarcely produced language options, particularly for four-digit Day-Dates.
It would be something of a waste if such a disc were housed in an otherwise unremarkable configuration. Fortunately, that is far from the case here. Buckley dials -with their painted Roman numerals- are famously polarizing: you either love them or you don’t. What is beyond dispute is their scarcity. The blue Buckley, arguably the rarest of the series, is especially difficult to resist. The crisp white painted numerals and matching white handset leap off the wrist, while the warm, custard-toned tritium lume plots add depth and character. The resulting color palette is simply captivating.
These dials are encountered in the 1970s, fitting for an era when design leaned a little more expressive. This example is delivered in a 1973 reference 1803/9. A white gold stunner featuring a thick, sharp case, a well-defined fluted bezel, and a bracelet in strong condition.
