A dynamically designed dial defines this early-1960s Day-Date. With its guilloché surface finishing, faceted hour markers, and mesh bracelet... what’s not to love?

Beginning with the dial: these guilloché-decorated examples, most often found on Day-Dates, are a testament to an era when craftsmanship took precedence over efficiency. Labour intensity was hardly a concern; the objective was to showcase the full extent of watchmaking artistry. Executed on a pie-pan dial, the result is undeniably charming. This pattern has been seen in numerous executions over the years. This early example is signed “Swiss” only and features no tritium plots, nor luminous material in the hands. While we have not encountered this exact handset configuration on a Rolex before, and therefore cannot fully guarantee its originality, it presents beautifully and complements the faceted hour markers exceptionally well.

Beyond the dial, the bracelet stands out as another notable and unusual feature. This “mesh” style, referenced as 7137 in Rolex’s Master Catalogue from the same period, offers a refreshing alternative to the more familiar President bracelet. Its texture and character pair seamlessly with the intricate guilloché dial, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

The watch remains in excellent condition. The dial shows light signs of age, as expected, but no notable damage; preserving its elegance and appeal.
