This 1992 Day-Date ref. 18208 features one of the most intricate dials ever produced by Rolex. Known among collectors as the ‘Carousel’, the design is built in layers: a pavé diamond centre, surrounded by a ring of white enamel with applied gold hour markers, and finished with a circle of brilliant-cut stones along the outer edge. Every element is factory-set, and precisely placed. The result is both elaborate and balanced—complex, without chaos.

The dial layout breaks from convention. The Rolex and Day-Date signatures are each framed in raised gold cartouches at 12 and 6. A subtle but rare configuration, seen only on select production runs.

The 36mm case is solid 18K yellow gold, fitted with a domed bezel and matching President bracelet. No additional gem-setting on the case or band—just clean metal, framing the dial without distraction.

The case remains sharp, the bracelet is tight, and the dial speaks for itself.

A seldom-seen configuration. A rare dial. And one of the few Rolex designs where decoration and discipline go hand in hand.

Introduction

The very essence of luxurious time-keeping, provided with a day and date function. It was launched in 1956 as a niche model and was only produced in precious metals (yellow-, white- and rose gold or platinum). Its retail price was way costlier than any other Rolex model. However, due to its popularity among a lot of prestigious people, for example presidents (hence, its nickname), it became Rolex’ flagship model. Over the years this model has enjoyed associations with a wide variety of people, from world leaders, athletes, celebrities and mafiosi (like Tony Soprano). Regardless of the differences, they all had one thing in common: being successful in their area of expertise. Therefore, to this day the Day-Date is still synonymous with luxury, prestige, style and success. With exception of the most modern models, the Day-Date comes in at 36mm.
