By chance? Certainly not! We got out of our way to acquire the most precious Day-Dates in the world.
Aventurine, a quartz mineral, is one of the rarest precious stone dials produced by Rolex. Its name is derived from the Italian “a ventura”, meaning “by chance”. Stone dials are quite fragile and many of them have developed cracks over the years, making a flawless dial like this one uncommon.
Aventurine usually occurs with a green color but the inclusion of chrome-bearing fuchsite gives the stone a deep blue sheen, as is the case on this dial. Aventurine-dial Day-Dates come exclusively with diamond-set indices or, as is the case on this watch, 18k yellow gold Roman numerals.
This 18238 from 1996 features a 36 mm 18k yellow gold case with a matching 18k yellow gold fluted bezel and President bracelet with a concealed clasp. The watch runs on the updated caliber 3155 automatic movement with a double-quickset function, which conveniently allows for the independent adjustment of the day, date, and time.
The watch is in amazing condition with sharp lines, deep gold hallmarks, and a tight President bracelet.

The very essence of luxurious time-keeping, provided with a day and date function. It was launched in 1956 as a niche model and was only produced in precious metals (yellow-, white- and rose gold or platinum). Its retail price was way costlier than any other Rolex model. However, due to its popularity among a lot of prestigious people, for example presidents (hence, its nickname), it became Rolex’ flagship model. Over the years this model has enjoyed associations with a wide variety of people, from world leaders, athletes, celebrities and mafiosi (like Tony Soprano). Regardless of the differences, they all had one thing in common: being successful in their area of expertise. Therefore, to this day the Day-Date is still synonymous with luxury, prestige, style and success. With exception of the most modern models, the Day-Date comes in at 36mm.
