Jasper, our colleague and the owner of Amsterdam Vintage Watches, is the youngest person to become a certified European Gemologist. Coincidentally, Bloodstone—also known as Jasper—happens to be his favorite precious stone. The deep green Bloodstone dial on this ref. 18238 Day-Date is flawless with some red specks. Stone dials are beautiful due to the natural variation of the stones used, but they’re also quite fragile. Many of them have developed cracks or rips over the years. Therefore, a flawless dial will increase the value greatly. This one is free from hairlines, cracks, or other undesirable marks. While most stone dials are free from any adornment, this dial features factory-set diamond hour markers. The markers aren’t set with the traditional square yellow-gold surrounds, but are of the rare round variant. The dial furthermore sports gold printed text and a gold printed closed minute track on the outer rim of the dial. The watch dates back to 1999 and features a thick 36 mm 18k yellow-gold case with a matching fluted bezel and a charming 18k yellow-gold riveted Oyster bracelet. The automatic calibre 3155 provides the watch with a double quickset mechanism so that the day and date can be conveniently adjusted. Speaking of convenience, the watch sports a sturdy and scratch resistant sapphire crystal. To top it all off, we offer the watch as a full set with the original box and papers.

Introduction

Rolex Day-DateIn 1956, Rolex introduced one the most iconic watches ever made: the Day-Date. The Day-Date was the first waterproof self-winding chronometer certified wristwatch with a day and date function. And to top it off, it was only available in gold or platinum! Rolex also designed a new three-link bracelet, known as the ‘President,’ to pair with this special watch. With exception of the most modern executions, the Day-Date comes exclusively in a 36mm case.
