In 1956, Rolex introduced one the most iconic watches ever made: the Day-Date. The Day-Date was the first waterproof self-winding chronometer certified wristwatch with a day and date function. And to top it off, it was only available in gold or platinum! Rolex also designed a new three-link bracelet, known as the ‘President,’ to pair with this special watch. With exception of the most modern executions, the Day-Date comes exclusively in a 36mm case.
In 1988 Rolex creates the new calibre 3155 which is based on the cal. 3135. The most important new feature of the newer caliber is the double quick set which allows the independent regulation of the date and day of the week by only using the winding crown pulled out to the second notch. The 5th number stands for its fluted bezel and the last one is the material used. In this case an 8; 18K yellow gold.
