When the occasion calls for a heavy hitter, few watches hit quite like a diamond, baguette-set platinum Day-Date.

The difference is apparent before even looking at the dial. Platinum is considerably denser than gold, giving the watch a weight that feels almost disproportionate to its classic 36 mm dimensions. That heft is part of the appeal. It looks elegant, but on the wrist there is no mistaking what it is.

The reference 18366 is one of the more extravagant executions of the five-digit Day-Date. Its factory-set bezel is formed by baguette-cut diamonds, each one neatly following the geometry of the case. The silvered dial is equally special, set with brilliant-cut diamond hour markers and baguette markers
at six and nine o’clock. On platinum Day-Dates, the brilliant-cut stones are slightly larger than those found on comparable gold examples, giving the dial a subtly different balance.

Dating from 1991, this example is powered by the automatic Rolex calibre 3155. The movement introduced the double quickset function, allowing both the day and date to be adjusted independently through the crown.

The platinum case remains in strong condition, with thick lugs, clear lines and deep hallmarks. Its matching President bracelet, fitted with the concealed clasp, is equally well preserved and shows minimal stretch.

A platinum Day-Date already sits at the sharp end of the Rolex catalogue. Add a factory baguette bezel and diamond dial, and understatement is no longer part of the brief.
