How accurate is it to call Rolex a conservative company when it is responsible for this flashy number? The iconic 36 mm 18k yellow gold Oyster case is adorned with brilliant cut diamonds in various sizes on the lugs and features a diamond-set bezel. The main attraction, of course, is the outstanding dial that reminds us of our favorite childhood amusement park ride. The design combines three concentric rings. The largest in, the center, features a luxurious pavé diamond setting with a cartouche at the 12 o’clock position that displays the Rolex signature and an uncommon placement of the ‘Day-Date’ text in a cartouche at 6 o’clock. The second ring consists of a mother pearl inlay interspersed with 18k yellow gold Roman numerals. Finally the third, and outer, ring features a string of brilliant cut diamonds. Together this intricate design resembles the top view of a fairground merry-go-round, hence the ‘Carousel’ moniker. This 18388 dates back to 1991 and is powered by the improved caliber 3155 automatic movement with a double-quickset function, allowing you to independently adjust the day, date, and time. The watch is in wonderful condition with a razor sharp case and super tight bracelet with the iconic Rolex concealed clasp. If that weren’t enough, the watch comes with the original box and papers as well.
In 1956, Rolex introduced one the most iconic watches ever made: the Day-Date. The Day-Date was the first waterproof self-winding chronometer certified wristwatch with a day and date function. And to top it off, it was only available in gold or platinum! Rolex also designed a new three-link bracelet, known as the ‘President,’ to pair with this special watch. With exception of the most modern executions, the Day-Date comes exclusively in a 36mm case.
