The very first Day-Date references, the reference 6510 (with a domed bezel) and reference 6511 (with a coin-edge bezel) were introduced in 1956. The 6510 and 6511 had the caliber 1055. Due to deficiencies this movement didn't build up enough power reserve to switch to the next day at midnight. Therefore, both references were produced for a single year before being fitted with an upgraded movement making both very rare and desirable. This Day-Date has a very classic configuration that we absolutely love: a gold, patinated pie pan dial, an 18k yellow-gold, elegant index and 18k yellow-gold alpha hands. The dial is protected by a plexi crystal. A few details we fancy are the coin-edge bezel, which is an old style of fluted bezel, and the red date disc. Crème de la crème is that it comes on an 18k yellow-gold Jubilee bracelet.

Introduction

Rolex Day-DateIn 1956, Rolex introduced one the most iconic watches ever made: the Day-Date. The Day-Date was the first waterproof, self-winding chronometer certified wristwatch with a day and date function. And to top it off, it was only available in gold or platinum! Rolex also designed a new three-link bracelet, known as the ‘President’, to pair with this special watch. With exception of the most modern executions, the Day-Date comes exclusively in a 36 mm case.
