The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 16520 occupies a unique position in the model's history. While vintage four-digit references have long been blue-chip collectibles and today's ceramic Daytonas remain notoriously difficult to obtain at retail, the five-digit Zenith Daytona continues to offer one of the most compelling combinations of historical significance, wearability, and value.

Introduced in 1988, the ref. 16520 marked the most significant evolution of the Daytona since its debut. Gone were the hand-wound Valjoux movement, acrylic crystal, and vintage proportions. In their place came a thoroughly modern 40 mm Oyster case, sapphire crystal, glossy dial, and a heavily reworked version of the legendary Zenith El Primero automatic chronograph movement; giving rise to the now-iconic "Zenith Daytona" nickname.

Production of the Zenith-powered Daytona lasted for just over a decade before Rolex unveiled its first in-house chronograph calibre in 2000. This relatively short production run has made the ref. 16520 increasingly desirable among collectors, representing the final chapter of Rolex's pre-manufacture chronograph era.

Offered here is an exceptional example from 1999, belonging to the coveted A-series and among the very last Zenith Daytonas produced. These late examples are distinguished by their use of non-radioactive Luminova, indicated by the "Swiss Made" signature at 6 o'clock, replacing the tritium lume found on earlier models. The watch features the highly sought-after glossy white dial and is fitted to its original Oyster bracelet with polished centre links, solid end links (SEL), and the robust Oysterlock flip-lock clasp.

Presented in excellent condition, this ref. 16520 is an outstanding opportunity to acquire one of the most important and increasingly collectible modern Rolex Daytonas, equally suited for the discerning collector or as an exceptional daily wearer.
