Vintage lovers, be ready to fall in love with the charm and patina this GMT-Master has to offer!
The reference 16750 is known with 2 dial configuration. The earlier examples having a matte black dial, just like its predecessor. But the later generation ones come like this: very glossy and with white gold hourmarker surroundings! The tritium inside those surroundings and in the handset, turned into a warm beige color, perfectly matching the patinated look of the uni-coloured, 24 hour bezel. Icing on the cake is the so-called "spider dial". This flaw in the lacquer used back then, caused cracking; as these lines on the surface present a unique pattern.
This reference has been in production for 8 years, until it was replaced in the late 80's by the 16760. This example dating back to 1985 and comes on the Oyster bracelet.
Introduction
Rolex GMT-MasterFasten your seatbelts for the story of the Rolex GMT-Master. Aviation company Pan-Am requested Rolex to create a wristwatch that would display multiple time-zones simultaneously, as their flights got longer; crossing multiple time-zones. Rolex came up with the GMT-Master (‘GMT’ stands for ‘Greenwich Mean Time’) in 1954. The watch features a date-function and an extra hour hand (with triangle) that points out the second time zone on the bi-directional turning, 24hour bezel.Still linked to aviation and although meant for professional use, it enjoys a much wider fan base ever since it first saw light. Over the years it underwent some changes and there are so many wonderful variations of this all-time Rolex classic. Some GMT’s are great as a single purchase, others are a wonderful addition to any collection and some of them can be considered as the crowning glory.
