Audemars Piguet dress watches are the biggest vintage bang for your buck and the Day-Dates with moonphase complication are the coolest of the bunch. When one thinks of Audemars Piguet, the Royal Oak is one of the first things that springs to mind. As a result, people tend to overlook that Audemars Piguet has a long and distinguished history of making some of the world’s most exquisite dress watches. One of your favorites among them are the Day-Dates with automatic movements from the 1980s.Most AP Day-Dates feature a two-register dial to display the day and date functions. However, a few models, like this 25588, introduce a third register with a romantic moonphase complication. This ref. 25573BA dates back to 1989 and features an elegant 33 mm 18k rose gold case with a beautiful stepped bezel. The watch features a beautiful opaline dial with two large recessed sub-registers at the 3 and 9 o ‘clock positions that display the day and date functions, and a moonphase indicator at 6 o’clock. We love this charming dial layout for its resemblance to a surprised O-face.. ????These Day-Dates usually come on classic leather straps. This particular reference, however, comes with a beautiful integrated 18k rose gold ‘brick-style’ bracelet. The 25588OR dates back to 1989 is powered by a handy automatic movement with a quickset mechanism to conveniently adjust the calendar functions. We’ve had the watch serviced at Audemars Piguet and obtained an extract of the Audemars Piguet archives as well. The watch is in excellent condition, though you should know that there is a minor mark on the 9 o’clock subregister.
Introduction
Audemars PiguetAudemars Piguet is among the holy trinity Swiss maisons d’horlogerie alongside Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. Audemars Piguet has a storied history of producing high-complication watches. It all started in 1875, when Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet founded the company in the heart of the Vallée de Joux, Le Brassus, Switzerland. This pure, rough and wild landscape, with deep, dark forests, ice-cold waters and the omnipresence of rocks and hills, provided inspiration and raw materials for the Swiss watch manufacture to develop the finest watches. Since its inception, Audemars Piguet has specialized in rare, valuable and highly-complicated watches like perpetual calendars, chronographs and chiming watches. Nowadays, the emphasis of Audemars Piguet lies on the iconic Royal Oak line.
