A momentous occasion requires a fitting tribute. This limited edition Royal Oak Jubilee was the perfect homage for the Royal Oak’s 20th birthday. In 1992, twenty years after the launch of the iconic Gerald Genta-designed Royal Oak ref. 5402, Audemars Piguet released the Royal Oak Jubilee ref. 14802 in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces. Of this production run, the vast majority came in stainless steel, while only a handful were produced in yellow gold and platinum. We’ve managed to snag one of these illusive homage pieces in gold! The ref. 14802 is a faithful reproduction with exactly the same proportions as the original ref. 5402 from 1972. The 14802 comes with the traditional ‘Jumbo’ case with a diameter of 39mm and a height of just 8.1 mm. As a result, this robust and sturdy watch still wears elegantly on the wrist. The characteristic octagonal case and integrated bracelet, courtesy of Gerald Genta, are executed in 18k yellow gold. The watch sports a slate grey dial with Audemars Piguet’s iconic 'Petite Tapisserie' finish.Just like the original ref. 5402 Royal Oak, this Jubilee edition is powered by the ultra-thin 2121 automatic movement, which is based on Jaeger-LeCoultre's legendary JLC 920 calibre. However, unlike the ref. 5402, this watch features a see-through sapphire case back that gives an unobstructed view of the beautiful skeletonized 21k yellow gold rotor. If you look closely, you’ll see that the cut-outs actually form an outline of the Royal Oak’s iconic octagonal bezel! We’ve just had the watch completely overhauled at our trusted Audemars Piguet service center. The gold case and integrated bracelet are in wonderfully sharp condition with the original chamfers as crisp as the day it left the Audemars Piguet facility in 1992. The watch comes with the corresponding service papers, an AP service pouch, and an extract of the Audemars Piguet archives.

Introduction

Audemars PiguetAudemars Piguet is among the holy trinity Swiss maisons d’horlogerie alongside Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. Audemars Piguet has a storied history of producing high-complication watches. It all started in 1875, when Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet founded the company in the heart of the Vallée de Joux, Le Brassus, Switzerland. This pure, rough and wild landscape, with deep, dark forests, ice-cold waters and the omnipresence of rocks and hills, provided inspiration and raw materials for the Swiss watch manufacture to develop the finest watches. Since its inception, Audemars Piguet has specialized in rare, valuable and highly-complicated watches like perpetual calendars, chronographs and chiming watches. Nowadays, the emphasis of Audemars Piguet lies on the iconic Royal Oak line.
