The 15202 was introduced in 2012 for the 40th anniversary. It was a homage to the first Royal Oak: the iconic reference 5402. The 15202 blends in all important design- and technological elements from the 5402. First of all, the 15202 has the traditional 'Jumbo' case with a diameter of 39 mm and an ultra-thin case of 8.1 mm. This is why this robust and sturdy watch still wears elegantly on the wrist. Just like the much-desired A-series the 15202 has an AP-down dial. The other 5402-series (except for the C-series) and other Royal Oak references display the AP-logo below the 12-hour position. Furthermore, the watch has a 'Petite Tapisserie' dial. Finally, it runs on the same caliber 2121 and therefore the centre second hand is absent. However, there are some things about the 15202OR that aren't reminiscent of the 5402. Obviously, the watch is made out of 18k rose gold while the 5402 was never made in this type of gold. Also, the dial has a lively shade of blue, which is different from 5402 dials. Contrary to the 5402, the 15202 has an open sapphire crystal case back. This beauty comes as a full set, dates back to 2017 and is in mint condition.

Audemars Piguet Royal OakIn 1970, Audemars Piguet instructed Genta to come up with an unprecedented steel watch. As the story goes, he found inspiration whilst seeing a diver at work with an old-fashioned diver’s helmet near Lake Geneva. Staying up all night, Genta drew the design for a circular case with an angular, octagonal bezel, eight visible screws, and an integrated bracelet. The Royal Oak was presented in 1972 as the most expensive steel watch available and it caused an uproar: why was a distinguished maison d’horlogerie putting out a sports watch, let alone in such a pedestrian material? Some experts even predicted that the Royal Oak would put Audemars Piguet out of business. Though it took a while to catch on, the Royal Oak is now one of the most iconic and long-lasting watch designs and has spawned an entire product line. It wouldn’t be the first time that Genta would prove a brand’s owners, customers, and industry experts wrong.
